The speculation about the recent awards show reached a fever pitch, particularly after host Geoff Keighley shared a mysterious photo of a strange statue. The mystery has now been solved. The acclaimed developer is working on a brand-new Divinity game.
Announced as Divinity, the game was debuted with a audacious trailer that included striking imagery, from a burning man to an orgy and the very opening of infernal gates.
Not the Expected Sequel
Anyone anticipating Divinity Original Sin 3, that is not happening. Larian warned that a third Original Sin game to its venerated RPGs is not currently in development.
That said, the developer referred to this new Divinity as a evolution of the main series. This distinction suggests that the team is likely building a more action-oriented experience instead of another tactical title. At this moment, this is speculation, as only a announcement clip is available.
What Makes Divinity Special
The Divinity series is highly rated and it's fair to claim it pioneered the modern wave of crunchy computer role-playing games. These games are defined by detailed worlds, branching plots, and flexible progression—elements that subsequently reached new heights in games like Baldur's Gate 3.
While its setting is familiar fare, what truly sets Divinity apart is the unprecedented level of trust given to the player.
While numerous modern RPGs have pared back options, Divinity is packed with specialized paths only possible with a distinct build with a personal story.
The series is also famously permissive, letting players to experiment throughout the entire experience. Nearly every quest can be completed in multiple ways, frequently in lateral fashion.
- You might solve a puzzle because you heeded something a non-human character said.
- Or, you could bypass a challenge by teleporting a glob of lava in a inventive way.
More to Come
It is precisely these elements that allow people to declare games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as among the greatest role-playing games of all time. Now, players can get ready for another adventure in this esteemed franchise.
